About Gasainkunda Helambu Trek

Gosaikunda is an alpine freshwater lake in Nepal’s Langtang National Park located at an altitude of 4380 m in the Rasuwa District. The lake melts and sips down the Trishuli River and remains frozen for six months in winter (October to June). There are 108 lakes in the area, small to medium. The Gosaikunda area is also a religious site. The holy water holds particular significance during the Janai Purnima. During this time thousands of Pilgrims from Nepal and India visit the area. There is a belief that the creation of Gosaikunda comes from Lord Shiva when he thrust his Trishul (holy trident) into a mountain to extract water so that he could cool his stinging throat after he had swallowed poison.

GosainKunda Helambu trek offers the trekkers and adventures the chance to follow in the footsteps of Bill Tillman and rediscovers the Himalayan passes, pristine valley and diverse ethinic culture. Compared to other treks, this trek is a short one but very challenging and somewhat strenuous. Sometimes, you have to maneuver through the high passes. You will come across stunning frozen lakes, beautifully built hamlets of Sherpa and Tamang, colorful rhododendron shrubs, exotic orchids, wildlife and many other landscapes that are calming to the eye. You will also witness the magnificent view stretching from Dhaulagiri to Mt. Everest, Kyanjin Gompa's holy Gosaikunda Lake and alpine yak pasture, while truly inspiring mountain views.

You will encounter the Yolmo community of high mountain villages, marvel at desolate high mountain views, and watch happily as farmers work in the fields with homemade tools and water buffalo teams. Gosainkunda-Helambu Valley Trek is noted for its scenic grandeur and friendly climate and is located at an altitude of 4620 m north of the Kathmandu Valley across the Laurebinayak Pass.
