Ghorepani Poonhill Trek

Duration – 6 Days

The Ghorepani Poon Hill short trek is a 4 – 5-day hike in the Annapurna mountain range in Nepal. It takes a moderate level of fitness to complete, and the max elevation is 3,210 meters (so there’s no real risk of altitude sickness). Pokhara is the closest main access city to begin treks into the Annapurna range. This trek starts from Pokhara and it's the best option for a quick trek if you want to see some of Nepal's major peaks up close. To Annapurna West, Annapurna I and Dhaulagiri the view from Poon Hill (3210 m/10531 ft (3.21 km)) brings to. The first couple of days the trail makes a steady climb between the small villages of Sherpa. You can spend the second night in Tadapani, which offers great views of Annapurna II, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machapuchare, also known as the "Fish Tail." If you bring some swimwear you can take a short walk down the river to enjoy the hot springs in Tadapani.

It's another day hiking from Tadapani to Ghorepani from where you'll trek to Poon Hill the following morning to catch the Himalayan sunrise. If you don't have the time to make the entire trip to Everest Base Camp this may be the next best thing to do. The highlight of the Everest panorama trek is the views from Namche Bazaar to Everest and Ama Dablam just above. The trek begins with a short, exciting flight to Lukla's small mountain airstrip, from where you'll be trekking to Phakding. The next day is a lovely day of trekking up the Dudh Kosi canyon that includes crossing several suspension bridges before you make the steep ascent to Namche Bazaar. The next day will be spent hiking up to the Everest View Hotel to catch a glimpse of Mount Everest in the distance and by now you'll wish you've made the full trek to Everest Base Camp. For those starting from Kathmandu this is a perfect trek and can be completed in less than a week. It's a 6-hour drive to Syabrubesi's remote hill station, from where the trek begins. The trek takes you up to the lovely Langtang Khola canyon. Although you won't see any Langtang Lirung 8000 m peaks (7227 m), the 99th highest peak in the worlds, is impressive enough. After entering the upper valley, make sure to climb to Kyanjin Ri (4773m/15655 ft) in the morning for a beautiful view of the Langtang Himal peaks and the surrounding glaciers and ice falls. Sleep for the night at Lauribinayek's tea houses and then get up early the next morning to hike up to the lakes. Return to Dhunche and Kathmandu the next day.
