About Tamang Heritage & Langtang valley trek

Tamang Heritage Trekking is considered to be a newly discovered trail in the off-the-beaten area of Langtang in Nepal. Trekkers will have a completely different experience trekking through fascinating Tamang villages that are rich in ancient traditions and cultures. All along the trekking trail they are pleasing to touch. The warmest and respectful hospitality really impresses you a lot. However, the highlights of this trek will be the arts and architecture, monasteries, and prayer flags.

Langtang Valley is really beautiful to see surrounded by all the snow-capped mountains and populated by the hospitable people of Sherpa. This valley is situated in the northern part of Kathmandu with spectacular varieties of natural and cultural diversity and amazing views of the Himalayas. It is a pleasant trip for trekking in Nepal that begins with tours of Kathmandu’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites followed by a drive to Syabrubesi the next day. Following our route map, you begin trekking from the lower region of the Langtang Valley through small villages, farmlands and verdant forests to Kyangjin Gompa. You will also climb Chhungdi for excellent sunrise views over the Langtang ranges.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)

If it’s a clear day on your flight, then your tour begins right from the skies itself. The sights from the windows of the jet will show you glimmering snow-capped mountain peaks spread out down below , giving the first thrills of your just begun vacation, sparking off a whole reaction of unforgettable experiences that is going to stay with you for some time to come. As soon as your plane hits the tarmac of Tribhuvan International Airport, our office's representative and driver will be on standby to meet and greet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. The representative will help you check into your designated hotel, and after going to your rooms and refreshing you will be briefed about your daily activities. The rest of your time is free to move around the neighborhood and getting familiar with your surroundings before you go trekking in Nepal.

After an early breakfast, you will leave Kathmandu in the morning in a private jeep or land cruiser for Syabrubesi. A village which is also a starting point for treks into the Langtang valley. This journey will be on a winding road through frequent switchbacks. On a clear day you will get to enjoy outstanding views of Manaslu, Annapurna and Ganesh Himal. You will continue until you descend to the small village of Syabrubesi, the starting point of the trek. You will stay overnight in Syabrubesi.

Your trek starts from today. From Syabrubesi, you will hike across the Goljung Village enjoying views of the Ganesh Himal, Shishapangma, Langtang Lirung and others. Gatlang is a village in transition, a small village on the hillside with traditional and weathered stone houses having wooden roofs and carved doors and windows. You will stay overnight at Gatlang.

You begin today's trek with a descent to Thangbuche, after Thangbuche the trail heads across a hanging bridge and soak-in magnificent views of the Ganesh Himal and Langtang Ranges along the way. Next, pass by the Chilime Hydropower dam and ascend until Tatopani. The name Tatopani literally means 'hot water' in Nepali owing to the natural hot springs there. However, the hot springs are no longer there after the earthquake that hit Nepal in April 2015.

Today you will trek from Tatopani to Thuman via Brimdang and Nagthali. Passing through the dense alpine forest and a high, open grassland with amazing views of the Himalayas, you will reach the small Tamang settlement of Brimdang. From here, it’s a few hours walk uphill until Nagthali hill. Here, you will enjoy the mesmerizing views of Langtang, Sanjen,Kerung and Ganesh Himal. Next, trek downhill to the Tamang village of Thuman a village with friendly people who love to sing and dance. You might even be invited to join in! And spend the night.

Today’s walk begins along a flatter section of trail, then descends to Timure. It follows part of the old trade route to Tibet, and in fact, Tibet is not far away—just three hours’ walk. However, it’s not possible to walk across the border these days, and there’s a heavy police presence along the roads in this area. After lunch, the trail continues to Briddim, another Tamang village, where you’ll stay in a local home for a truly unique experience. All accommodation, lodgings, and food are offered at local houses on a rotational basis, so you can be sure that your stay is benefiting the whole community and not just one or two enterprising families (as is sometimes the case with hotels and lodges).

Trek from Briddim to Lama Hotel (2480m). After breakfast you will descend along the village and cross the bridge and climb other side. Descend to landslide and slow climb along the Langtang river. Overnight stay at Lama Hotel.

Our guide will take you for morning walk following Trisuli or Langtang River upstream, leading to a climb into Rhododendron and Oaks forest, after few hours of walk, you will reach Ghoretabla in the middle of the forest.

After an hour rest, you will continue walking for few hours to Langtang village through forest and crossing streams and then reaching Langtang village where you will have your dinner and stay for overnight.

Langtang village is mostly inhabited by Tamang and Bhotias tribe, morning walk leads on gradual path for a short while, then coming across “mani-prayer wall”, walk leads further east where the gorge opens up into a wide scenic valley with views of peaks at close distance the best view of 10 days trek in Nepal.

After a walk of about 3 hours reaching Kyanjin Gompa, a beautiful place with panorama of mountains and close views of Langtang Lirung at above 7,000 m with ice fall, followed by reaching lodge where you have the whole afternoon free, so you can go on a short walk, discover the beautiful mountain and have your own time. You can also visit the cheese factory established some 25 years ago by Swiss Technical Assistance and local support.

A rest day to enjoy and marvel the superb views, an ideal spot for leisure hike to nearby hill Kyanjin Ri at 4,700m high. Around Langtang valley you can enjoy views of GhenguLiru (Langtang II 6571m / 21,560ft), Langtang Lirung (7,425m / 23,765ft) Kimshun (6,745m / 22,137ft) and Shalbachum (6,918m / 22,699ft) to the south, the ChimsedangLekh forms a ridge of peaks which includes Naya-Kanga 5,846m and Gangchempo, Tilman’s beautiful Fluted Peak. Beyond it continues to the Jugal Himal, ending with Dorje Lakpa (6,980m / 22,929ft), extending further east on the upper meadows of the Langtang range ends in a huge and massive mountain wall, forming the border with Tibet.

After a great time at Kyanjin Gompa, our guide will take you back on the same trail to Lama-Hotel a small settlement in the midst of the forest at the bank of upper Trisuli river.

Trek follows on same route all the way. After crossing bridge, walk is pleasant through bamboo forest; on leaving the river walk downhill through farm terraces till Syabrubesi where you will stay overnight.

Last day of this wonderful 10 days trekking in Nepal concludes with an exciting drive down hill back to Kathmandu, in Kathmandu transfer to your hotels with free afternoon for individual activities. Overnight stay at Kathmandu Hotel.

Kathmandu is known as the "City of Temples," and has been a popular tourist destination since Nepal opened its gates to tourists. In the Valley, the city offers a beautiful mixture of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence. Its two major neighboring cities, Patan and Bhaktapur, bear immense historical, cultural and religious significance. The famous and largest Hindu shrine of Pashupatinath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal Boudhanath, the 55-windowed Palace of the 15th century, and Swoyambhunath will be a half day guided tour. Overnight stay at Kathmandu Hotel.
